Landscape art project

For this assignment, I attempted to do an Expressionist-style depiction of the Sensations I felt during the 30 minutes of writing and 30 minutes of drawing.

At the end of the street in front of my neighborhood there was a lake that had gators, birds , fountains, you name it. So I figured that would be the perfect spot to sit and start because it was also right next to the street.

Once I had the data and drawing, I figured I'd try to encorporate as much of the data as I could but I couldn't quite seem to hold on to the composition of the collage like I wanted. Rather I didn't really like it that much to be frank once I started laying it out.

After mulling it over for longer than I probably should have, I decided I would just work on the physical sensations like the heat, breeze, and the smell/texture of the grass I was sitting on when that ended up catching my eye, so I decided I'd double down on that and make it more about the sensations than the details to keep myself from over-thinking the piece to the point of not getting anything done.

After a lot of trial and error using the digital paint smudging technique that was attempted in the last piece to convey the interacting of the gentle breeze in the light blue and the heat red,  and looking up thermal imaging data led to using a light orange in stead of the stark white to closer simulate how heat reacts to cool breezes, and removed the figures. An attempt was also made to use green and rough paint strokes for the sensation of the roughness of the grass

Once that happened, I tried using green highlights in the heat-form to convey the smell coming off the grass that was lightly peppered in the air.

The problem that happened was in the printing process yet again. There was not enough value in the first test print to read as anything at all and was just a blob of nothing. Turns out my monitor had been on a setting that makes the colors more vibrant than they are.  Once this happened I tried bringing up the values by adding more layers of color seeing as how they were slightly opaque for some reason I couldn't find out. Tried mixing in more orange, darker reds, blacks, whites, toyed around with the muted orange background. In what ended up being upwards of 11-13 test prints, I was able to get an at least servicable version of what I originally thought I had, and took that to be printed

(Lost some of the prints done on copy paper before the transition to photo paper, however the two in the first column to the left were the absolute first and second test prints I did)

Fortunately it printed exactly like the final jpeg showed (in the right monitor settings) and mounted it for presentation. Unfortunatly it seems like there just wasn't enough there to hold someone's attention. However upon revisiting it, I decided to unhide the figures and see how it works. Maybe incorporating them plus more figures would do the trick? Most likely gonna need to rethink this one.
