In-Depth Ambitious project #1
For this project, I wanted to see what I could do to abstract the initial Hepplewhite we designed using digital markmaking. That being said, I realized from our first project that my draftsmanship skills aren't at the level I needed them to be for me to pull off the inital brainstorming concepts I had in my mind, so I took Don's advice and tried to make something using the skill set I have and having the basic principles of design opened up next to me while I worked.
This lead to me thinking about making a "Stained window"-like abstraction using basic shapes that i found in the quadrant we were assigned.
Then, I decided to make a series of pieces without any color to see if i could find a composition that spoke to me.
At first I was placing the shapes a bit randomly, but I wasn't happy with them so I started slowing it down and placing them more methodically and with purpose towards the last 4.
Once I had the design I wanted to work with, I began overlapping some lines with the color I took from the color scheme of the original chair as well as filling in the shapes with those colors (as shown below)
Finally, I used the triangles to not necessarily flip the colors but to add the other darker colors as well as introduce solid yellow and red triangles to help guide the eyes around the piece. Due to the fill not being absolutely perfect, it left a littlebit of white around all the edges, which I had to zoom in and clean up all the edges intividually.
